I recently had the privilege of meeting HE Bùi Thanh Sơn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, to explore ways to deepen commercial and investment cooperation between the UAE and Vietnam. I was joined by Abdulrahmaan Al Ansari, Founder and Group CEO of Apolonia Capital, and Oanh Hoang Nguyen, Senior Vietnam Advisor.

The economic relationship between the UAE and Vietnam has strengthened significantly in recent years. Vietnam is among Asia’s fastest-growing economies while the UAE stands as Vietnam’s largest regional trading partner. Major UAE companies, including DP World, Mubadala, and Boroug, have made substantial investments in Vietnam underscoring the growing depth of this partnership. Our conversation focused on several strategic investment opportunities. 

Infrastructure and logistics emerged as a key priority with both sides recognising the need to enhance connectivity through investments in ports, transport and supply chains. We also explored renewable energy and sustainability where UAE investment can play a pivotal role in supporting Vietnam’s clean energy transition.

Finally, we discussed financial sector cooperation where there is significant potential to expand capital market ties and strengthen private equity participation.
With Vietnam’s rapid growth and the UAE’s strong investment capabilities the potential for deeper collaboration is immense. In what ways do you see UAE-Vietnam economic cooperation evolving? Your insights as to where the greatest opportunities lie would be greatly welcome.
