It was most exciting to introduce the Family Office Forum on the afternoon of the second day of the event. This series of sessions was dedicated to taking a deep dive into the critical role family offices play worldwide as investors and digital prime movers, as well as assessing some of the current headwinds they may face. The massive contribution of family offices to global GDP was highlighted, and the evolving investment patterns towards various private-sector asset classes were discussed. The implications of the great generational wealth transfer and the increased emphasis on ESG investing were reviewed. There was also the opportunity to explore the immense economic significance of merchant families and their family offices in Saudi Arabia and the other GCC countries. We then proceeded into a fascinating fireside chat with Sonny Hong, CIO of Soho Holdings, with our chat focusing on the role of venture capital in family office portfolios. LEAP is now the world’s most-attended technology event and the attendance exceeded 215,000 this year. More than US$14 billion in public and private sector technology sector investments and collaborations were announced. It has excelled in its goal to boost domestic technology infrastructure in support of Vision 2030 and highlights Saudi’s important global digital role in today’s fast-changing world.
