I recently had the pleasure of contributing to an AsianInvestor article on India’s booming private debt market.
Private debt as an asset class has experienced significant global growth in recent years. Within Asia Pacific, India stands out as the largest private debt market, driven by strong GDP growth and a rising middle class. Moreover, the banking sector in India currently faces major challenges due to high levels of non-performing assets (NPAs).
Private debt has stepped in to fill this gap. Non-bank financial companies have become critical players in India’s credit ecosystem offering tailored lending solutions across high-demand sectors, such as real estate, infrastructure, fintech and consumer finance.
The outlook remains highly promising driven by the above trends. In fact, it is estimated that by the end of 2025, India’s private debt market could account for nearly 30% of the total private credit raised in the APAC region.
It really was a pleasure to supply input for this article.
