Emerging markets are once again capturing the attention of investors, thanks to slowing US inflation and falling yields.
And there's none more suited to discuss this trend with than Dr. Mark Mobius, the father of emerging markets.
It was wonderful to catch up with Mobius, who is regarded as one of the most successful emerging markets investors in the past few decades. He is known for growing Franklin Templeton’s EM AUM from US$100 million to US$50 billion at the peak.
Our conversation focused primarily on the Asian markets, and we discussed recent economic and political developments in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. We also reviewed a number of interesting business initiatives currently taking place between Asia and the GCC countries, as Mideast markets garner mounting global investor attention following their inclusion in the MSCI Emerging Market indices and the landmark IPO of Saudi Aramco. We also briefly considered the challenges currently being experienced by the new government in Argentina.
Overall, it was an extraordinarily insightful conversation and I look forward to further collaborations with one of the most celebrated investors and financial visionaries in the world today.
