As part of my ongoing efforts to identify growth opportunities in Thailand for Middle Eastern investors, I recently had the privilege of meeting famed Thai scholar and politician Professor Kriangsak Charoenwongsak, known as Dr. Dan, in Bangkok. We were joined by my colleague Dr Worawuth Kongsilp.
Dr. Dan, a prolific author with 200 books to his name and a former member of the Thai House of Representatives, shared his insights highlighting the strategic pathway for Thailand to unlock its full potential.
We discussed the importance of economic diversification, moving beyond traditional sectors like tourism and agriculture to embrace high-tech industries and green energy.
Dr. Dan also stressed the need for modernising education to prepare the next generation for a rapidly evolving global economy. By focusing on STEM, vocational training, and critical thinking, the younger generation can be prepared to embrace and thrive in a fast-evolving global economy. He also made the compelling case for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship as well as strengthening good governance.
By building alliances within ASEAN and beyond, and leveraging its geopolitical position, Thailand can also develop its role as a regional hub for trade, logistics and finance. His latest book, “Thailand Tomorrow – a Vision for Progress”, offers insights not just for Thailand, but for other middle-income countries seeking to elevate their economies.
I’m excited to see how these ideas will influence Thailand’s growth story.
